This workshop will explore the importance of building strong therapeutic relationships in the playroom with LGBTQ+ children and families, through the use of seminal play theories to promote empowerment and self-esteem. Participants will also explore the careful introduction of caregivers into family play therapy to repair damaged relationships and enhance the parent-child relationship.

Session Description:
Sand tray therapy is often seen as an intervention only with clients in the playroom. However, play therapists can benefit from using a sand tray as a mode of professional engagement and growth beyond the playroom. This workshop will help play therapists integrate sand tray into their personal and professional life, allowing for self-reflection, goal setting and career exploration, as well as processing problematic interactions with colleagues with differing values and beliefs. Sand tray construction and reflection will be used in this highly experiential session, allowing play therapists to learn how sand tray can be used in their daily lives to aid in professional mentorship, support and networking with other play professionals with similar interests.
