Parent's Corner

Parents play a key role in the success of play therapy. By staying involved, communicating openly with the therapist, and reinforcing positive strategies at home, parents help create a safe and supportive environment for their child. Their understanding and encouragement can strengthen the progress made during therapy and promote lasting growth.

Emotional Regulation

Regulation techniques are tools and strategies that help children manage their emotions, reduce stress, and regain a sense of calm. These can include deep breathing, mindfulness exercises, sensory activities, and guided play. Teaching kids how to recognize and regulate their feelings supports emotional well-being and improves their ability to cope with challenges.

Examples of Regulation Techniques

  • Deep Breathing: Taking slow, deep breaths to help calm the nervous system.
  • Sensory Play: Using tactile activities like playdough, sand, or water to focus and soothe.
  • Movement Breaks: Gentle exercises like stretching, jumping, or dancing to release tension.
  • Mindfulness: Simple grounding exercises like noticing sounds or focusing on the breath.
  • Use of Comfort Objects: Holding a favorite toy or blanket for reassurance.
  • Visualization: Imagining a peaceful place or happy memory to reduce anxiety.
